HMAS Voyager Model by Ken Taylor

Many people build models, I guess in the main from kits, I built a model of USS Blue the American Destroyer that came alongside the burning and stricken Canberra after the Battle of Savo Island on August 9 1942 to rescue many of her crew, myself included.

On the other hand are a devoted band of model makers who work from scratch and detailed plans, one such is Ken Taylor who has devoted 9 years of his life, and I imagine a large amount of his home living space to house the keel when laid, and the model as it grew to the finished wonder. It is on a large scale of  1.24, not too many modelers are that ambitious.

I am unsure where the model had finished up, it deserves a very public display to be worthy of its magnificance.

However, AHOY in its small way pays tribute to Ken and his art in producing this model of HMAS Voyager.

Hi There,

I read your interesting article on the HMAS Voyager built by Ken Taylor.

In the article you were not sure where the model ended up. Please refer to
this link: http://www.steelnavy.com/HMASVoyagerKTaylor.htm where it states that the model is at Cockatoo Island.

I found your site because I too am looking to build a model at 1:48 scale, but as yet cannot locate any builders plans.

Any ideas?

Regards,
Neil Penny.
