Navy Week Exhibition.2005. Shrine of Remembrance. Melbourne.
29th. September 2005 In this 60th Anniversary year of victory in Europe and victory in the Pacific, the Naval Historical Society of Australia - Victoria Chapter, is proud to conduct an exhibition of photographic reproductions of paintings and black and white images from various sources, to be held in the Visitors Centre at The Shrine of Remembrance. We thank Veterans Affairs in Canada, The United States Navy - Historical Section, and the Australian War Memorial for making these available. This is our third Exhibition at the Shrine, and we are pleased to have the support of the R.A.N. and to be a part of the annual Navy Week programme. The images on display will offer the range of world locations in which the R.A.N. participated, from the Russian convoys, to the surrender in Tokyo Bay. Memorabilia will feature in glass cabinets The Exhibition opens on Friday October 28, and will continue until November 25, from 10 AM to 5 PM. During this time, there will be four lectures presented by veterans who served in various theatres of WWII. We particularly encourage school children to attend with their schools, so that the importance of this occasion, and that of the service of Australians in WWII, is not only remembered, but that it will serve to educate them. We invite members of the public, and of groups in the Navy family to visit the Exhibition during this time. Last year, we were very pleased at the response to the HMAS Sydney Exhibition at the Visitors Centre, resulting in a visit by 6000 people, including previously unknown family members of the crew, lost in 1941.
