William C Roach, Chief Petty Officer, died in the disaster involving HMS Curacoa and the Queen Mary

September 25, 2009

Hi my name is Anthony Charles Roach, my Grandfather died in the disaster involving HMS Curacoa and the Queen Mary. I have just watched a documentary on the incident ( sky history channel) . My father never got to meet his father, and i my grandfather. I have tried to find information and photo's of him, so that i may learn of
him. Can you advise me on the best course,or if you know of any information. My Grandfather was William C
Roach- petty officer-c/jx 137434. I appreciate that you are busy and this may not be possible, but i feel that
this e-mail is a step in some direction.

Thankyou, yours sincerely
Anthony Roach.

Anthony.

The records of British RN personnel are held at 3 different locations, depending primarily on the time when
a person entered or served in the Navy or an auxiliary service.

1. MoD. Ministry of Defence,
CS(RM)2A,
Bourne Avenue,
Hayes,
Middlesex UB3 1RF,
England

2. Centurion. Naval Pay & Pensions (Accounts),
Centurion Building,
Grange Road,
Gosport,
Hampshire PO13 9XA
England

In both of the above archives, only written enquiries from next-of-kin are accepted, and a search fee is charged.
There is an ongoing process of moving selected records from these locations to:

3. PRO. The Public Record Office,

I would start at No 2 and seek details of your Grandfather's naval service.

I doubt that you would find any photos of him at this distance in time since the tragedy.

Regards,
Mac
