William C. Moresby Dear Mac: Thank you for your interesting site. I thought I would add to the discussion. My quadruple great grandfather, William C. Moresby, was Fairfax Moresby's brother -making the Admiral my great uncle. William All best! Joseph Sanders Pearson
My thanks for your kind words about AHOY and for taking the time to write. I am suprised at the interest aroused about Admiral Fairfax Moresby and all of his relatives scattered around our globe. I am afraid I could not find the reference to his brother's death in the British Colonist Newspaper, I searched in the 1863 edition around the 13th, of January to no avail, Am I looking in the wrong place please? Wishing you well from Australia, I guess your weather in New York is turning colder whilst we are well into Spring here in Melbourne. Best regards, Dear Mac: I hope I got the right link. It's the following: The listing (from the index) is simply: * If you search for "Moresby", you should find it. New York is suddenly warm, but I am returning home for the weekend (Vancouver) where it's cold. Perhaps I should continue on to Australia! All best, Joseph Dear Mackenzie
Attached are two photos of a Cemetry in my original home town Fareham in Hampshire.
They came from a friend as they show the grave of Admiral John Moresby who named Port Moresby after his father Admiral of the Fleet Sir Fairfax Moresby. The message from the friend is below:
"I am attaching front-and back photographs of John Moresby's grave in the cemetery at Fareham. The next grave is that of another Admiral, a friend I believe. We spoke about the location of his grave last time we met. In case you might pay a visit, my recollection is that it is round to the left after you enter the cemetery."
Admiral John Moresby lived in Fareham during the last period of his life. His house, Westbourn Manor, if I remember its name correctly, is now the Fareham Museum. There is a plaque to him in Holy Trinity Church, Fareham.
Best to both.
Colin
All the best Richard Downer
