Letters

August 3, 2012

Dear Mr Gregory,

Greetings from deepest, darkest South Wales. I ran across your website yesterday and reading it has been a fascinating experience. I enjoy sailing myself, mainly in small boats in the Bristol Channel, and I studied history at university - although with a concentration on the medieval.

My late grandfather, born in 1920, was a Royal Marine and saw a great deal action during WWII. Vividly I remember him telling me the story of being on board HMS Orion during the Battle of Crete. Some of the articles on your website brought that to mind, and I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate that.

Take care of yourself,

With best wishes,

Lee Utting

Lee,

My thanks for your kind remarks about AHOY, they are much apprciated.

The Royals are indeed a unique Corps, but we do not have them in the Royal Australian Navy.

In my State of Victoria some years ago we had Sir Dallas Brookes a RM General, as our Governor here, at that stage I was the Aide-de-Camp to the Governor General and we often visited Government House in Melbourne, and I knew the Brookes family  well, their daughter Jennifer married their Naval ADC Robin Byrne.

Nice to her from you.

Kindest regards.
Mac.
