Transportng HMAS Pirie's ships bell

September 16, 2009

I was reading about the missing ships bell (HMAS PIRIE) I was one of the crew that transported the bell to Turkey.
Leaving Sydney we called at Darwin, Singapore, Colombo, Karachi, Port Said Cyprus and on to Istanbul.

We were due to leave by continental train to Calais and to Dover, by luck good or bad the railways were on strike and so we were transported to Malta.

I got a draft to a RNAS Station for a further two months.

Glad to see that the name Pirie has survived

Cliff. Kelly-Walley

Cliff,

Thank you for your note about HMS Pirie, it was a pity that we missed out on getting her bell for return to Australia.

Best Regards,
Mac.
