The Sea Devil, by Lowell Thomas I too read, and have the book, The Sea Devil, by Lowell Thomas. I even got Lowell Thomas to sign it in 1984 when he came to visit the Hampton Roads area. He was quite surprised to see the book. The other interesting book he wrote was on WWI UBoat stories. Both these would make fine movies today fact being better then fiction. I had a Revell model of the Seeadler at one time and it was busted up moving around in the Army and I am looking for another. I actually also want to just start down loading “The Sea Devil” for publication on the internet. Monty KINGSTON M. WINGET II
Lowell Thomas' book The Sea Devil, is an interesting read, but Blaine Pardoe the US author of a new book on Von Luckner The Cruise of the Sea Eagle ( The Amazon book site is offering it at 25% off for US $ 15.61 ) had this comment on the Lowell Thomas book: "The correction of the events in Lowell Thomas’s version of events. Much of what was in The Sea Devil, especially in the Pacific, bordered on fiction. There were islands that the Count never visited (per the log of his launch). The entire discovery of what happened to the rest of the Seeadler crew in the US version of the book was incorrect and misleading." All interesting stuff , I do agree that the general account of the WW1 exploits of Seeadler would make a great movie. I guess the other Thomas book you have is his Raiders of the Deep. Have a look at the Felix von Luckner Memorial site at : http://luckner-society.com/ Nice to hear from you, Best wishes from Australia. Mac. Gregory. |
