Some survivors of HMS Poseidon were brought to Hermes after its sinking. August 28, 2009 Mr. Gregory: I am writing to you only moments after seeing your photo collection of the HMS Hermes for the first time. I am in the final stages of completing my book on the HMS Poseidon -- some of the survivors of which were brought to Hermes after its sinking. Some of those images on your site are ones I have never seen before. There is one of a slightly overweight gentleman walking across the deck -- that's PO Patrick Willis, the hero of the Poseidon accident. I would be interested to get a copy of that photo if at all possible. The photo is labeled "Hermes09.jpg." Not sure what the inscription actually says, but the date of the accident was June 9, 1931. Thank you so much for displaying these images. I look forward to hearing from you. Yours truly,
I am afraid I have no record of where the Hermes photos all came from. If you wish to use one or any of them I suggest you credit AHOY, indicating an unknown person had sent them to us, and you have no way of contacting the original owner of these unique photographs. Regards, |
