Seeking information on ships: Van Hooson and Van Swall?

Hello from northern n.s.w.

My brother- in-law was in the army ww2 and was in New Guinea. He remembers a ship that was going to take him back from Queensland to N.G. called he thinks the Van Hooson and also another ship Van Swall. Can you give me any info. about these? He said the first one was sunk while on its way to pick up  the troops.

Any info. really appreciated.

I am searching, searching but thus far to no avail.

Cannot turn up either ship in any list for WW2.

If I do find anything will get back to you.
