RAN destroyer lost off Victoria in WW2?

Hi my name is JOHN from Kallangur SE Queensland. I have a request from an elderly lady in a nursing home. She told me that she knows of an incident where an Australian  Destroyer fully manned (200 or so ratings) was sunk off the coast of Australia ( possibly Victoria ).

This event was supposed to happen towards the end of WW2 .Could you possibly give me any information  on this ( Ship, survivors etc ). By reading your articles I feel that there might not have been any Destroyers left anywhere near Australia ,although I can believe that there would be a bit of "hush hush "secrecy going on .

I am not aware of any RAN destroyer lost off Victoria in WW2.

That seems to be an unfounded rumour.
