Operation Jaywick Memorial to be rebuilt (see "60th. Anniversary of Operation Jaywick") Dear Sir Reference the memorial at Fraser Island I'm the new memorial marshal so to speak, my name is Fred Courtney and I'm ex Airborne "Australian" and the memorial is not on Fraser Island but overlooks the island from a place called Damian Park Hervey Bay, also the one in your web site is the old one we have had several upgrades since this photo was taken, the last in 1999 when it was dedicated by Horrie Young an operative on the Krait, also a guard from 1 Cdo Coy carried out the guard for us, but alas the local lads had to play on it for a while and stuffed it to the extent that it has to be completely rebuilt, to the tune of approx. $10.000 aus only this time we are using Granite and a local firm called laser impressions, the boss being Glen Stocks and with a great deal of luck the skate boarders can not do any damage to it, and if any person is interested in helping out financially by all means, and it will be ready by the 8/7/07 and I hope another guard will be provided by 1 Coy Cdo again these fellows slip into different locations around the globe and kick a bit of arse every so often if you want any photos or more info give me a buzz Fred Courtney
Thanks for your message, and for the info as to the actual whereabouts of the Memorial. I would be pleased to have an updated photo, we will put that up, and correct its position. When the new Memorial is complete and is unveiled please send an update if convenient. It was a daring raid by the Krait and her group, and such WW2 feats need to be recorded for our future generations. Nice to hear from you, Best regards,
