Michael O'Driscoll, who was in the Dunedin Star when she struck a submerged object

I see a Mr Ward was seeking information on whether his father was aboard/survived the ship wreck of the Dunedin Star in 1942. A number of the crew were from my home town Kinsale in Southern Ireland and indeed my uncles, cousins and father.

My father Michael O'Driscoll, who was on the wheel when she struck a submerged object, is alive and well (physically & mentally at the age of 85 - the medicinal benefits of a pint of Irish Stout; - or two!) and enjoying a little fishing, boating, etc in Kinsale!

While I am stationed with UN in Laos, I can relay any specific questions, etc to him about the Dunedin Star - his memory is still 100%

Best regards
Gerry O'Driscoll

Dear Gerry,

I would love to hear your father's story of the grounding of the Dunedin Star, and his general impressions before he was rescued.

I have looked at John Marsh's Appendix A to his book about it all, he lists the crew and passengers, and I could find no mention of a Ward, but could you please ask your father if he has any remembrance of a Ward onboard Dunedin Star?

It is good of you to write, and how is Laos at the moment?

Best wishes.

Macx. Gregory.
