Marine Phoenix was not a liberty ship

RE: http://ahoy.tk-jk.net/Letters/FamilySailedinlibertyship.html
and the misconception of one "Dennis Worledge."

"am just getting started with my family tree. My parents and 3 children left New Zealand for Australia in 1948 ( I think). We sailed in a Liberty ship named Marine Phoenix. I have some info on Liberty ships in general, but was hoping to fine tune the detail to the specific vessell."

Dear Mac,

The Marine Phoenix was not a liberty ship.  My dad served on her.  As you learned she wasns't a liberty but a C4 transport.  A lot better ship than a liberty ship.  My dad's hackles come up if anyone refers to her as a liberty ship.

Marine Phoenix T-AP-195

She was a C4-S-A3

Washington state.

Jon,

Thank you for that. I did tell Dennis at the time I could not find Marine Phoenix as a Liberty ship, and that she was Transport.

I do not blame your Dad for getting cross, no one likes their ship to be inadequately described.

I did not retain Dennis' address.

Best regards,

Mac.
