Marianne Osterman (Marianne F Kaye) Athenia Survivor

March 9, 2012

Hello Mac,

I recently corresponded with you about my grandmother, Rhoda Thomas, who survived the sinking of the Athenia in 1939.  I’m back to see if you can put me in contact with one of your email correspondents – Arthur Spira, of Nanaimo, British Columbia, whose mother also survived the sinking and, at the time of his email to you (June 2006), was alive and well and living in San Diego. By happy coincidence, I too live in San Diego and would love to talk to Mr. Spira’s mother about any recollections she has regarding the ship itself as well as her experiences during the evacuation and rescue operations. Any details would help me, as I am researching a book about the events surrounding Athenia’s sinking. If, after all these years, you have an email address for Mr. Spira and could forward this message to him, I would would be most grateful.

Thanks for your help.

Tom,

(see "Athenia survivor, Marianne Ostermann")

I have 800 entries in my address book, and back in 2006 I was culling them from time to time, and Arthur Spira
suffered that fate.

Look in the San Diago telephone directory for a Marianne F Kaye, I found some details and she is listed as 90, which is about right for our Marianne, but I could not get the actual phone number.

I hope you get lucky and find her, let me know please how you fare.

Best wishes.
Mac.
