Lona Marie (nee Attfield) Manning survived sinking of Athenia

February 20, 2009

Let me introduce you to my wife, another survivor from the sinking of TSS Athenia on Sept. 3,1939. Lona Marie (nee Attfield) Manning, was a mere lass of 19 back then but is now 89 years young. Her memory today leaves must to be desired but is sharp as a tack when it comes to that fateful night. Lona was returning to her home in Victoria B.C.
Canada after visiting family in England and Europe with her mother Lillian (nee Winterburn) Attfield and her sister Shella (nee Attfield).

We have extensive news paper articles and other memorabilia that we would like to share with those who might be interested. Also we would be interested in hearing from other survivors.

Looking forward to  hearing from you.

Lona Manning and Richard Manning

Richard,

Thank you for your interesting mail.

I am still amazed at the number of Athenia survivors still out there thatb take the t ime and trouble to write to me.

We will add your mail to our AHOY Athenia Pages, and any survivors who may wish to contact you directly may do so.

Should you like to share any of your newspaper articles and memrobilia with us, we will add them t o AHOY  for the benefit of a wider audience interested in the tragic events of that dreadful night on day one of WW2.

Kindest regards,
Mac.
