She sailed from Wilhelmshaven on the 21st of August in 1939 for the South Atlantic, with war declared, she sank 5 ships there, moved into the Indian Ocean to sink the tanker Africa Shell in November 1939, then back to the South Atlantic and sank 3 more ships. On the 6th. of December 1939, she met her supply ship Altmark for the last time, then came the Battle off Montevideo against the British cruisers Exeter, Ajax, and the New Zealand cruiser Achilles. Graf Spee had 36 killed and another 60 wounded in that scrap. She was then scuttled off Montevideo on the 17th. of December 1939. I hope this is the information you are seeking. All the best, |
