George Wormald, lost in sinking Empire Lake 15 July 1943 - Looking for survivors of SS Empire Lake

SS Empire Lake

Dear Mac,

The Empire Lake was sunk in The Indian Ocean on 15 July 1943 by two torpedoes fired from U-181. The captain of the u-boat was the famous Wolfgang Lüth, a committed National Socialist and amoral to those he fought. There were 39 hands serving on the ship, 32 were killed and 7 survived. My Father was a Royal Navy Gunner on The Empire Lake but was one of the 32 killed. I have tried so very hard to trace any of the survivors, one I know died in 1987, I have made contact with two other families whose fathers were killed. If there are any of the survivors still living and see your site, please would they contact me.

Thanks for giving me the opportunity.
Kind regards,
Bill Wormald

Bill,

We will add your email to AHOY, and hope if any survivors from Empire Lake visit, they might seek your address from us.
