French Mont Blanc collision and explosion Two ships, the Imo in service as a Belgian Relief Ship and the French Mont Blanc collided in Halifax Harbour in Nova Scotia Canada during World War 1 and the resulting fire ignited cargo of explosive materials that were on the way to Europe. The resulting explosion has been recognized as the largest in the world prior to the atomic bomb. Halifax and area were extensively damaged and hundreds were killed and thousands were injured. A friend who wishes to complete a model of the Mont Blanc has been unable to find a picture of this ship and only has a silhouete obtained from insurance papers. He has been months trying without success I would be ever thankful for any assistance that could be had to end this search and enable him to complete his goal. This friend is a most talented craftsman and modelmaker who lives in my City of Dartmouth Nova Scotia which is just across the harbour from Halifax. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestion, A new subject from Wilfred in Halifax, I have not been able to find a photo of Mont Blanc, other than one of her stern, nor can any of my contacts, it is an story from 1917, and I will do a piece on her soon.
