Father was served on the 'White Ghost' HMS Cumberland

Dear Mac,

I think it's possible the 'Cumberland' in the foreground and all seem to be Kent Class Cruisers taken in the early '30's

My father was served on the 'White Ghost' as it was called for a long time and came home from the Far East on it's last active cruise of the second World War with both legs in the air in the Sick Bay.

I have plenty of photos of the Cumberland and have sent many of them to the Cruiser Website in the UK.

Like to hear from you.

Regards,
Brian Whitcombe QLD Aust

Brian,

Nice to hear from you.

It is unusual to see a picture of 4 of these ships all together, and it has generated some discussion by people giving their view on which ships are actually depicted here.

Can you send a few of the Cumberland  to me please?

I came across her several times when I was in Australia over 39/41.

They were wonderful ships, able to perform many and varied tasks, from Convoy escort to bombardment.

My six years of WW2 were spent in three, Australia, Canberra and Shropshire, with a spell in the old Adelaide after being sunk in Canberra.

Thank you for taking the time to write.

Best wishes,

Mac.
