August 17, 2013
I am trying to find out how the above Australian Soldier was captured and any details of where he was incarcerated. He was in the 4 Reserve Motor Transport Company which travelled on the “Sibajak” to Singapore in 1941.
Mc Sweeney played for the Australian Rules Club Essendon. I am currently researching all the AFL players who have had war service and would welcome any further detail.
Edward McSweeney was born at North Melbourne on 10/09/1903 his next of Kin was Maurice McSweeney,
A photo of MS Sibajak is attached.
MS Sibajak sailed from Sydney in Convoy US 11B on 17/9/1941 arriving at Singapore via Fremantle on 5/10/1941
4 Reserve Motor Transport Company was made up of 22 Corporals and Privates.
Regret I cannot find Edward as a Japanese POW.
