D.N.Rafalovich, of Hr.Ms.de Ruyter, who survived as a POW and died December 1998 Dear Sir,Ref. USN Commander (ret) L.B.Dorny - please be informed that the U.S.Navy Officer on board of the Hr.Ms.de Ruyter was Lieutenenant O.F.Kolb, who died during the battle. However, there was a 3rd American on this ship namely U.S.N.Signalman D.N.Rafalovich,who survived as a POW and died December 1998. Two Royal Navy men are mentioned in the Hr.Ms.de Ruyter book; Lieutenant Jackson and Signaller Williams. Jack Penhollow lives now in Palm Desert California, USA.
