Clemson Class Destroyers - Pictures from 1920's

March 20, 2009

Hi,

Came across these negatives the other day, if you wish to use the images feel free.

Any idea where the pics may have been taken? The material belonged to a Melbourne resident and pics were shot in the late 1920's.

Cheers,
Len Weigh

I would guess that the destroyers in question were in the main based on a west coast Navy Yard such as Mare Island or at San Diego.

On the east coast there was the old Brooklyn Navy Yard, one at Hampton Roads, Philadelphia etc.

Thank you again for your interest.

Regards,
Mac.

Hi Mac,

What can I say other than thank you for the prompt reply and concise history of the vessels in the photographs.

I take it that the location as you suggested is definitely in the US, unusual as the 500 or so negatives in the collection are all images of Australia. Either way I am very appreciative of the information that you have compiled.

Cheers,
Len.(Weigh)
