Captain Oliver Hazard Perry or Captain Matthew Calbraith Perry?

Dear sir

I was wondering if you had any information on Admiral Perry’s relatives or family tree.  My Great Aunt was Mary Myrtle Perry and she married my great grandfather, Monroe Fullington of Huntsville, Alabama.

I understand that Admiral Perry is my Great Uncle….but this is not a fact as I know he did Polar expeditions.

Do you have information?

Kind regards
Julia Smethurst

Julia,

The Polar Explorer's name was Peary and not Perry.

There are two famous Perry's in US Naval history,

1. Captain Oliver Hazard Perry commanded the Lake Erie Flotilla and fought the British on the 10th. of September 1813.

2. Captain Matthew Calbraith Perry who forced open the door for trade with Japan in 1852.

Have you any idea which of the Perry's you believe that you are related to?

Best regards,
Mac.
