Letters
Battle of Surigao Strait Dear Mr Gregory, being in process to look for some stuff about a research I’m intended to do , I found a letter sent to you by an american sailor, called Eugene (Eugene…??) about Battle of Surigao Strait (http://ahoy.tk-jk.net/Letters/EugenesimpressionsoftheBa.html). His tale on japanese survivors when the battle was ended, is really very interesting and – I’m sure – not known. Am I permitted to use those info whether the research will be written? May I quote your site as source for literature? It is really not easy to find some first-hand tales about these facts: as far as you know, are there some other reports from eyewitnesses (American or Japanese) about battles of Leyte Gulf? I thank you in advance for every help you would give me. p.s.: at present this is only a project, and I have not yet begun to write. However, if this project will run, it is possible it will be published: this is the reason for I ask to you the permission to use some literature found on your site. If you don’t agree, please tell me, and I’ll take nothing from your site. Best regards
I have been in Euope hence not responding before. Please use whatever you wish from AHOY , a simple acknowledement to Ahoy. Mac's Web Log will suffice. In addition to Eugene's letter about Suriago go to this URL on AHOY: http://www.ahoy.tk-jk.net/macslog/HMASShropshireabookbyStan.html It covers the book about HMAS Shropshire, she took part in the Battle of Suriago Strait just before I joined her as a Lieutenant in the Royal Australian Navy. If you get the book up, go to 7/2, where you will find an account of the ship's part at Suriago. If you think I can assist you furher please write. Sorry for taking so long in geting back to you. Best regards,
