Barbara Bailey, Athenia survivor

December 07, 2008

No doubt you have Barbara Bailey in your list but in case not you will find her in Fragments of War, by Joyce Hibbert, Dundurn Press, 1985. She spent some time in a lifeboat and was picked up by the Knute Nelson. Spent the rest of the war in the UK. Married a Canadian and made another trip, this time successfully, on the Aquitania. Settled in the Ottawa region of Ontario on a farm.

Best regards from Canada,
Eswyn Lyster (Mrs.)

Eswyn,

Thank you for your mail, it is always great to have a first hand account about an Athenia survivor and their history afterwards, than a name on a bald newspaper list.

I am indeed grateful for your time.

The season's greetings to you.

Mac
