Any of the crew of the Australian warship HMAS Sydney II (sunk in 1941) was from Manly NSW Hi Mac, hope you can help me with this enquiry: I am trying to find out if any of the crew of the Australian warship HMAS Sydney (sunk in 1941) was from Manly NSW. If you can not help, can you direct me to the appropriate person or Government department who may be Your help is very much appreciated. Regards
I do not have a crew list for HMAS Sydney 11 at the time of her loss, and any list will not in my view list the individual's home town. At this AWM site is a full list of her crew at time of her sinking.
Now, if you obtained that list, and this would be a laborious process as you will be faced with 645 names, go to the Australian Government WW2 Roll at: Then for each name you can get up an individual Certificate of Service, as an example here is my own. It shows place of birth, and you would pick up the Manly births, but that does mean the individual would still live there. I doubt that any Government Department would readily have the information you want. Individual Personnel Records would have the place of next of kin, but some one would have to go through 645 records, and I do not think they will do that. Sorry I cannot be definitive, but I have been asked a question such as your one. Best regards, back to letters index |
