Another Graf Spee commemorative bell I think i have found the bell off the Graf Spee could pls tell my what it worth and if so how much i have enclosed a photo of the bell it also have a chain. regards' mark
Your bell is the fifth one I am aware of around the world, all exactly the same. The Graf Spee was commissioned in 1934 and sunk at the Battle of the River Plate in 1939. I believe these bells were commemorative bells cast in Germany to remember her loss in 1939, one of my correspondents paid $US 15 for his copy in Berlin in 1983. They are all a nice reminder of a once proud ship, but in my view did not come from the ship. Kind regards, |
