Able Seaman DAVID NOBLE, H.M.S. Alcantara

May 12, 2010

Sir, thank you for replying to my email. Please find attached the record of the war memorial in our home town in Scotland which includes my grandfathers name. Also the cert. from the G.W.G.C. site for his sacrifice.

I don't know if you recd. my original email I had sent you. My grandfather left a wife (my grandmother) 2 daughters and 2 sons. My grandmother never re-married but brought her family up by herself, a daunting task in those days. So many women found themselves in a similar position after that time. My mother was the youngest daughter of the family.

Thank you for taking the time and interest to help preserve the memory of the sacrifice that so many made for us.

Respectfully.

James Watt.

James,

I am pleased that you have your Grandfather's record from the CWGC, have you ever been able to visit the Naval Memorial at Portsmouth to view his record there?

It must have been a mammoth task for your Grandmother to have raised a family of four back in the times of WW1, one must have a great deal of admiration for the women who achieved that.

It was a pleasure to do but a small service for you.

Best wishes.
Mac.
